My job as an educator is to teach them how to learn it and make them want to learn it. I personally do not believe that negative reinforcement is beneficial. My comments on tutoring Grammar : I began teaching grammar in Composition courses while working on my Master's in English at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville many years ago using Harbrace Handbook. Since then, I have taught grammar within various English and leadership courses at Vanderbilt, Belmont, NSCC, and Price Waterhouse, and USACE primarily using Diane Hackers' books. Since Microsoft Word is only about 33 percent accurate, students need to learn correct (rather than spoken or "trendy," i.e., using "so" to begin an answer) grammar
