A Little Bit About Me...

Constructivist, multi-sensory, inquiry-based.
For 20 years I worked for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, as a fifth through 7th Grade classroom teacher. I taught all of the academic subjects in various combinations, sometimes all at once to a self-contained class. The State of Tennessee recognized me as "Highly Qualified" in all subjects, from Kindergarten through 8th Grade. I served on the district's math council for 5 years, helped direct the district's science fair one year, and worked extensively in the field of arts-based curriculum development. I also was trained in the IB curriculum, and implemented it for 10 years.

Before that, I was working with adults and students in a ministry environment back in Texas as a worship leader and music teacher. I have five years of teaching experience, including teaching kindergarten students, students who were English language learners, and fifth, sixth, and seventh grade students. My focus has been in reading and language arts, and I have attended several Uncommon Schools trainings for close reading techniques and writing and vocabulary strategies.
