I have two adult children who have had learning disabilities while growing up, and fully understand a parent's frustration in encouraging their child over these particular hurdles. I have a BS in Business Administration and achieved my degree over the period of nine years while working and raising my family. In addition, I have volunteered as a Sunday School teacher over a thirty year period, teaching ages 2-12 years old. I love teaching people of all ages. My easy going demeanor and enthusiastic attitude have allowed me to make a strong connection with all my students. I went from the Boston Public Schools to Commonwealth School and then Wellesley College, and would have been lost, early on, without help from tutors. I majored in English and Russian and work with several communities for whom English is not their first language. I am also a freelance writer and editor and I help my children's friends with their college essays. I work as a substitute teacher with all levels and grades and teach everything but Science and Gym. I am patient and approachable but insist on the value of completing assignments even if the student "hates" them. I am good at explaining how this will be important later, which turns around reluctant learners. I believe in explaining, showing, modelling, and then stepping back while the student tries, explains, and determines where the mistakes come up.
