My comments on tutoring Speaking : Rec'd "A" in college speech course.

I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I continued tutoring young students and adults in the 1990's, tutoring Basic Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra, Basic Geometry, English Composition, Speech, Study Skills and the Sciences. In addition, tips were given to enhance test-taking skills in hard-to-Ace subjects like Economics. I have tutored for the Sickle Cell Organization in 2001, helping students catch up numerous missed assignments. I tutor when the opportunity presents itself. Last Summer-Fall I assisted a nursing student in Speech and helped with two research papers. More recently (Oct.2009-Jan.2010), I worked tutoring students grade 2-10. From April to June 2010, I tutored high school students from Highland Park High School in Basic Math and Geometry, and Algebra I & II. Starting the latter ... read more

Share your knowledge to someone else.

I have been a tutor for 23 years and I have taught Adult Basic Education for 12 years. I am still continuing my education to receive a Masters degree and plan to get my PhD. I work for a community college and have done advising, enrollment, testing, phone directory, and student sevices. I have attended many professional development workshops on education.
Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. I will implement practices and materials I think will fit the student's profile. I feel a teacher wears many hats and you must be prepared to wear a different one any day.

Kind and patient tutor for math, science & computing.

Patient, relaxed, friendly. Able to translate concepts into different scenarios in order to help the student grasp the concept.
Although not degreed in math, science or computers, they were my favorite subjects. More importantly, I am gifted in communicating concepts into terms my students understand and grasp. Repetition doesn't equate to learning, it's a component, it's a way to practice, but it is not how the mind grasps the concept. You will find me kind and patient, I understand you may not get the concept the first or second time. I do however, have high expectations in completing homework. It doesn't have to be correct, but it must be done. This personal responsibility will help you far beyond any course I help you in.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed English and Writing. I have kept a journal since I was in the 1st grade. I scored very high in these areas on my ACT's, as well as in all of my high school and college classes. I am enthusiastic, kind, positive and approachable. I passed my state boards on the first try because I feel I have excellent study skills. I enjoy working with people and find joy in helping others. I was a substitute teacher for a short period of time before taking a job as a counselor in 2004. In 2006 I moved to the Blue water area and have been employed as a medical social worker at a rehab and nursing center. I am looking for an opportunity to help others succeed in school and life.

I have helped out several of my friends and family members, with everything from studying to hands on projects. I am looking to expand this help to others, and I also believe it will be a rewarding experience for myself. I, myself, enjoy the learning experience a lot, and hope to help others also find a way to enjoy their learning experience.
I have many different teaching tactics depending on how someone prefers to learn. Some people are visual learners, and need the assistance of visual aids and presentations. Others like to learn about things by doing them. However someone enjoys learning, I believe is the best method.

I have a BS in Criminal Justice. I love learing and research. I have always had a hard time learning. I think this is why I love to teach others. I have a few years of teaching cheer for 4th-8th grade & I teach adults in the workplace. I understand every age and person learns different. I find it a challenge in each person to figure that learning style & make sure we are successful in whatever subject I am teaching. I teach a program called train the trainer. So I train others how to teach. I feel if I have the material I can help anyone in a basic level course. I can help someone with basic reading or a book report or research.
I have learned people learn different ways. They learn by hearing or seeing and sometimes both. I like to talk and as write materials down and have pass outs. I feel this is the best method.Tutors help other students with their course work. Tut ... read more

Many people have different teaching skills and techniques. I do not believe any technique to educate a child is better than any other technique. Each child learns differently. Understanding the fact that children learn differently is crucial. The teacher must be able to adapt to the child's learning style. I believe I have the ability to use an array of teaching styles to help children. I would enjoy the opportunity to help children learn.
As a student at the University of Detroit Mercy, I worked as a tutor for two years. I helped other students struggling in mathematics and biology classes. Also, my senior year in college I worked as a Teaching Assistant for a Microbiolgy lab. In addition, I did student teaching for a Catholic Middle School.

Fifteen years corporate training experience. Continue to tutor three sons through school and college, currently unemployed working part time as adjunct faculty at Macomb College teaching courses in business applications. I also teach music, voice and guitar at my church, mentor younger musicians and help them develop into quality players and performers.
I've always enjoyed the art of communicating complicated material to those who are just learing or don't quite "get it". My focus is to break things down into basic elements and achieve agreement. Then, support learning with repetition. For example: "Would you agree that if we add 5 and 5 and then another 5 that we would end up at 15?" "So, then, 5 added together three times equals 15, right?" I'm also a big fan of mindmapping for education, so I tend to use it when I lecture at college, and I encourage my students to use it as ... read more

During the last ten years I have tutored students in English, psychology, the arts, and the social sciences.
