I was brought up by both of my parents, which I am lucky to say they are both teachers. After I was born my mother stayed a housewife, but my father kept on studying, and teaching at many levels. He has now a PhD, and I am following in his footsteps, not quite same specialties but similar. Throught my working career of over 19 years, I have learned many skills and trades. My style of teaching is to allow the student to learn by doing. This is supplemented with encouragement, guidance, and occasionally talking through why a specific answer is correct. There have been many times that I wish I had become a teacher but using the old saying: work always got in my way. Teachers, next to parents, are the most important person in a growing child's life. My favorite approach is to take it slow. I find that to teach a student a specific field of knowledge there is almost always a hindering block that cannot be seen at first glance. For instance, a student who is having trouble with division of decimal numbers may not realize that the whole issue stems from his lack of understanding of the multiplication tables. Allowing the student to show you what he or she knows and watching the student attempt the problem step-by-step will reveal this hidden block. Once this hidden block is taken care of, the information will flow easily and naturally.

I adapt my teaching style to the student I am tutoring. Usually I like to show a student the correct method of solving a problem, and then I like to have the student do the task on their own. After they do a few problems on their own, I like to check their work and help them with any errors.
