My tutoring strategies: -throughout my experiences, I realized that each person is different and require different teaching methods depending on the individual's preference -I prefer to use study skills that will benefit the individual; I have a variety of strategies depending on the subject as well. some individuals learn well using flashcards, while others prefer repetitive writing for memorization - I have had a couple of ADHD clients that prefer learning games and activities because it helps them stay active, but focused at the same time

Experienced math tutor.

It depends on the student and what they are doing. If all they need is practice, then I will let the student do all of the work, interjecting only to give advice or to correct a mistake if the student does not catch it themselves. If needed, I will work out similar problems. If the student needs help understanding, I first go in depth why it works and why you do what you do. I then give concrete examples to demonstrate it so that the why makes sense and comes together with the actual application. Then I have the student practice to make sure they truly understand. If needed, I will become creative and come up with different ways of looking at problems so that they can make sense. But no matter what I try to have fun. The best way to learn is to have fun, and if you aren't enjoying yourself you probably won't be receptive to learning.

Therefore, my first responsibility as a tutor is to understand the best method of learning of the student and use it to maximize the potential for the student, in grasping the subject. A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Ronald Reagan High School with a 4.6 GPA in the second graduating class ('08), then went on the NC State University to study Engineering, where I jumped in between various Engineering programs for three years before simply deciding to take a break and truly figure out what I want to study. While this may deter several people from choosing me, I know that if you met me and/or any of my teachers from any grade level, they/I could certainly set the record straight, as I am quite a smart person, I have simply struggled with getting my life into an appropriate schedule. This is because between high school, my extra curriculars (captain of the drumline for three years and a captain of the lacrosse team for three years), and my parents, my life was completely structured for me, so what little free time I had was easy to budget, this is not the case in high school. I love teaching in an environment where the student is made to feel comfortable and that their efforts are rewarded and appreciated. I like to provide my students with as many tools as possible to make sure they get the most thorough understanding of a particular concept. Often times I use hands-on materials, one-on-one settings, and technology based instruction. One person at a time helping one student at a time can make the difference.

I believe that children must be engaged in the subject matter before successful learning takes place. Finding fun, interesting, and personal ways for the child to connect to the topic will truly allow them a chance to learn and retain information.
