I begin by observing the person. In which areas are they confident and strong? In which areas are they fearful and using avoidance? I then find a bridge from their place of confidence to their place of fear and coax them across until they are happily skipping across. This may take some time, but I believe in quality over quantity when it comes to completed work. I want to leave the person with the ability to complete it well and on their own the next time. Speed can be developed after mastery.

A Little Bit About Me...

While working on my undergrad I was given the opportunity to be a teaching assistant for a freshman college level film theory and design class. During this opportunity I was responsible for grading the daily work of our students, as well as being a resource for the students design projects. I taught lectures based on film theory and design, as well as specific pieces of film.
I myself am a visual and auditory learner, so I am very open to all types of teaching styles. I find that people learn better when several avenues of learning are available for a subject. Also repetition is a very important device for making knowledge permanent. I like to bring a fun and light atmosphere to learning.

After graduating with top honors from high school, I began my college career at the University of North Florida, receiving my BS in biology with Baccalaureate Honors in 2002. I began my PhD in Ecology at Old Dominion University in 2004, and after completing a 150 page dissertation on spiders and carnivorous plants, passing written and oral comprehensive exams, and completing over 72 hours of graduate coursework, I was awarded my PhD in 2010. I have won multiple teaching awards, including the 2009 Biology Dept Adjunct Professor of the Year at Old Dominion University.
