A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very similiar to higher level academia teeaching. I have high expectations for my students and want to prepare them for life outside of the classroom and beyond. I teach my students to be life long learners and active members of society with opinions and thoughts unique to their standards and priorities.

I begin by observing the person. In which areas are they confident and strong? In which areas are they fearful and using avoidance? I then find a bridge from their place of confidence to their place of fear and coax them across until they are happily skipping across. This may take some time, but I believe in quality over quantity when it comes to completed work. I want to leave the person with the ability to complete it well and on their own the next time. After graduating with top honors from high school, I began my college career at the University of North Florida, receiving my BS in biology with Baccalaureate Honors in 2002. I began my PhD in Ecology at Old Dominion University in 2004, and after completing a 150 page dissertation on spiders and carnivorous plants, passing written and oral comprehensive exams, and completing over 72 hours of graduate coursework, I was awarded my PhD in 2010. I have won multiple teaching awards, including the 2009 Biology Dept Adjunct Professor of the Year at Old Dominion University.
