While attending Claflin University in the pursuit of obtaining duel BA's in the field of journalism and sociology, my off times was spent in the middle schools of Orangeburg, SC for nearly six years. I spent 4-5 hours in the classroom (daily) as an assistant and tutor/mentor in language arts classes grades 6-8. My majoring in sociology allows me to use human behavioral knowledge to reach kids effectively in order to sustain their focus which allows them to embrace the concept of learning. I have extensive grammatical skills due to I have worked as a journalist for a daily newspaper and written several research papers that has been published in respected journals. As a tutor/mentor, I have also worked with two youth organizations during the summer months for over five years. My tutoring skills cover the subjects of English, Science, and History. As a graduate of a Health Science program at a competitive public university, Clemson University, I showed an understanding of many science disciplines. In the course of earning my BS in Health Sciences with a Concentration in Pre-Professional Health Studies, I became well versed in biology as well as chemistry. I have also demonstrated a passion for education as I wish to continue my own education in a masters program. I attended the School for Creative and Performing Arts in my home town. I have a skill for the Visual Arts and have had many years of Art History. I also read music and play the piano. I love working with children and students of all ages. I was a volunteer at Shriners Childrens Hospital for many years in the recreational therapy department.
