A Little Bit About Me...

I don't believe in one set teaching style. I think each student requires a personalized teaching style and I would try to accommodate each student personally.
I have previously, and am currently, tutoring a fourth grade student with his spelling and math. I graduated from Auburn High School with a 3.8 GPA. I have an ACT score of 30. I am a National Achievement Semifinalist because of my PSAT scores and am waiting to find out if my SAT scores were high enough to qualify as a finalist. I will be attending UAB in the Fall of 2013. I worked for 12 years as a Special Education teacher in the public school system, teaching students with ADD, learning disabilities, autism, Aspergers, emotional and behavior disorders, and mild intellectual disabilities in a resource room and inclusion setting. My philosophy of discipline is simple: observe, take data and find the function of the behavior. When a student misbehaves in class there is an underlying reason. Every behavior has a function. The function can be to gain access to an item or person, to avoid doing the work or aggressive behaviors if they do not understand the assignment completely, medicine or personal affects (hungry, sleepy or thirsty). I also believe in “brain breaks”. My students take a break every hour to get up, walk around, listen to music and get the wiggles out. I have volunteered over 80 hours combined from the summers of 2011-2012.I've worked with a diverse amount of students ages varying.Although I do mainly focusing on K-1 ,I am capable of helping any elementary student become successful and improve there selves in what ever it is that there struggling in. A Little Bit About Me...

As an adjunct instructor, I did not only lecture, but also invited guest speakers, assigned group projects, and used films and music to deliver the content of the class. I understand all students learn differently, so it was my goal to ensure that I offered a variety of techniques to present the class material. I encouraged my students to offer suggestions if they had a better idea about the method of instruction. I am also a firm believer in giving students multiple opportunities to achieve a goal, if they show initiative and are truly trying to grasp the topic.
