Teaching comes easy to me because I was taught very well. In high school I was the president of the FTA club where we would go to local elementary and middle schools to educate children of all educational capacity and mental handicaps. Patience is a valuable skill I had to develop early on, as well as many others, in working with children. My teaching method is to first take the teaching subject(s) and break them down into correlating groups. Then I would see how I would explain that to someone who knows absolutely nothing about the subject. Then explain the material in a slow and efficient manner and repeat if necessary. I love working with children, young adults, and adults.
I achieved the Eagle Scout Award in the Boy Scouts of America program and was selected by American Legion Post to attend North Carolina Tarheel’s Boy’s State in the summer of 2000. I graduated from the Univ ... read more

My favorite part about teaching is the moment that something "clicks" within a child's mind. I am a problem solver naturally so I try to lead children down a path of discovery instead of just teaching the answer. I believe this helps children gain an understanding of how things work or why they are a certain way so that they are able to apply these same processes to other problems.
I have earned two bachelor degrees, BS in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business and BA in Spanish. I have 10 years of professional experience involving customer service, Spanish translation, tutoring, and training. As an ex-patriate, I was afforded the opportunity to learn Spanish fluently and have witnessed first hand its importance in business and life today. I also have elementary age children that I assist in the everyday learning processes.

I thoroughly enjoy and delight in interacting with students as a tutor, providing individual attention for students who desire to excel in their studies. I want every individual I work with to benefit from what I can share with them. I am well aware that every student has a different learning ability, and each individual will retain information to a different degree. Throughout my years as a tutor, I have worked to create and apply the learning style that works best for each student so that we, as a team, can work together to achieve their potential.

I believe educating is a matter of connecting with students in order to learn how to break down complex concepts so they can understand. It really is a challenge I love and I get a great deal of satisfaction when I see that eureka moment. I believe the reason that some people do not enjoy science is that they never had a teacher who was excited about making these concepts accessible. Discoveries can be made by the student when the educator finds the "keystone" principal that ties all the information together.
I received my BS in Biology from UNCW and for the last 15 years I have been an Environmental Chemist. Now, I am pursuing my true calling as an educator. It was a regular part of my job to teach and train new grad students and employees and also to do community outreach. In the latter role, I was guest lecturer on three occasions at Brunswick Community College and taught ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have completed all courses for my Associates Degree and was a trainer at my previous position. When in high school, I was a college preparatory student and graduated with a high school Diploma as well as 12 Advanced Placement courses and completed my International Baccalaureate diploma.
I love teaching all grades and levels. The most important aspect of teaching is to know your student. Each individual learns in different ways, some are tactile learners, some are visual, and some are auditory learners. Incorporating all aspects into my teaching style assists the retention of the material. It also has to be relatable to the student, so we have to use relevant examples that they understand. All children can learn any subject if you can spark their interest. There is no better feeling than seeing the light turn on and the sense of accomplishment in a child's eyes.

Over three years, I advanced to Dean of Health Sciences, and while I set up and administered programs in that area, I continued to teach in the sciences. More About This Tutor...

I enjoy teaching and working with students of all ages and education levels. I believe that all students are able to learn if given the right tools and exposed to the correct style of learning that they need. No one individual learns at the same pace or in the same way so I believe in a customized approach when trying to instruct and tutor a student in a particular subject. I am a strong believer in a hands-on approach to teaching where the student learns by activity based methods. I encourage my students to look for solutions and come up with answers to problems through their own reasoning with guidance from myself or other teachers. I strive to be a positive influence and advocate for students that reach out for guidance and support.
As a graduate of three university programs, I have a strong drive and desire for fostering learning in myself and in others. I have a doctorate degr ... read more
