I have taught and tutored hundreds of children while substitute teaching. I have found that my style is one which tries to involve the student in the learning process as much as possible. I love using volunteers to read aloud and participate in the learning process. I use a teaching paradigm that stresses the importance of student's needs and learning styles. Every student brings unique skills and perspectives to the classroom and tutor session, and because of this I have found that my teaching strategy changes per student and per teaching situation. For some students, being taught using the socratic method works well, while others like to take notes, absorb the material, then ask questions later during office hours. I have found that understanding student's learning methods have helped me to become a better teacher.
