Optimistic communicator sharing a love of reading & writing

I worked as a tutor while doing respite work for United Cerebral Palsy of Orange County in California. I am proud to say that the young man I worked with the longest is now finishing his BA in justice studies at Cal State Dominguez Hills. I also tutored as a substitute aid for the Ocean View School District in Orange County, California. After earning my BA in journalism from CSUF I have published in a number of print and online media outlets, and I am currently pursuing an MFA in creative writing.

My comments on tutoring Poetry : Have wide experience in poetry and have published a couple of personal poems in small literary presses.

I have been a special education teacher in the Apache Junction Unified School District since August 2008 where I began as an inclusion teacher at Thunder Mountain Middle School as an emergency certified special education teacher. I like to make subject-matter fun and interesting for children by bringing their interests into the subject matter. I find that this enables the child to be comfortable and more open to learning. I find that a sense of humor is also important to bring to the table. A Little Bit About Me...

Prior to full-time teaching, I subbed in Kyrene and Chandler. This helped me to get an edge with different age levels. Then I taught eighth grade English in Chandler for three years. Following this, I took two years off to be with my young children. Next, I taught high school English for seven years to sophomores and seniors in Ahwatukee. I also worked as a Media Specialist. In this position, I taught students from k-12th grade. Lessons focused on literature, research and the writing process/skills.
