Optimistic communicator sharing a love of reading & writing

I worked as a tutor while doing respite work for United Cerebral Palsy of Orange County in California. I am proud to say that the young man I worked with the longest is now finishing his BA in justice studies at Cal State Dominguez Hills. I also tutored as a substitute aid for the Ocean View School District in Orange County, California. After earning my BA in journalism from CSUF I have published in a number of print and online media outlets, and I am currently pursuing an MFA in creative writing.
Communication is key, so I will look for the specific interests that a particular student has and connect with where their strengths reside. From there we can build on these high points and draw them into other areas where their abilities need improvement.

I am certified by the Arizona Department of Education in Elementary Education, K-8. My teaching experience includes 10 years of public school teaching. I have taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th all subjects and middle school Language Arts. Five out of my ten years experience, was spent teaching 3rd grade which is my personal favorite. Language Arts is my specialty but I also enjoy Math and American History. Generally, my students love my teaching because they feel that I make learning fun.

In 1999-2000, I provided highly individualized, one-on-one instruction in the client's homes while working with a local tutoring company. I am an experienced educator and state certified instructor with impeccable credentials and a heartfelt enthusiasm for teaching. More recently, I have tutored adults participating in an Adult Literacy Program. I assisted them in their GED preparation in Math and helped them set and reach their short-term educational goals. More recently, I worked with incarcerated individuals preparing them for the GED test, improving their testing skills, and promoting a positive environment for learning.
