Guitar is one of my top subjects! Playing professionally on and off for over 30 years, yet, I can help every beginner as well.

I've been a professional graphic designer, and professional musician, since 1982. Over the years I've developed a huge bag of tricks and a very wide knowledge of techniques and skills in both areas. while I certainly don't profess to "know it all", I can definitely help anyone with issues in graphic design or the software needed for it, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.. and I can help even the most confused beginner get started in art or music!

My Approach To Teaching Guitar... At the early age of 14, I discovered that I had a “knack” for music when I had the opportunity for a friend to show me how to play a few basic chords on his guitar (because I didn’t own one myself). Although press- ing down on the strings hurt my fingertips, and my fingers kept slipping out of position, I fell in ... read more

My comments on tutoring Guitar : I have been playing for half my life. Feel confident in teaching the basics.

I currently have no experience as a tutor. I am a English major and honors student at Georgia Perimeter college and will likely go into teaching when I graduate because I have a passion for teaching. I have childcare experience as well as management experience that included training employees which is a form of teaching. I am very patient and love to teach whether the person is excited to learn or reluctant.

I believe that science has a undeserved reputation for difficulty as a subject that is directly related to the inability of many teachers to "break it down". Science can seem to be like a foreign language to the uninitiated, but at its essence science is simply a way of thinking about the world and asking questions. Several themes appear again and again in concepts that on the surface may seem unrelated and it is recognizing these themes that is the key to success in building knowledge and confidence. My teaching philosophy is to point out these common threads binding various topics in science and relate it to the real world as quickly as possible, always with the goal of breaking it down to its simplest explanation.

I always find myself trying to lead others to figure out material on their own as a I set guidelines for them as they do so. I believe this is the best way for them to learn the material. I do not like to tell my students the answers, inhibiting them from thinking things through. I try to find different ways of teaching material in order to keep them motivated, as well.
I am a recent graduate of kennesaw State University, with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. I believe that I am competent in various areas of biology and chemistry, and will be able to convey that competence. I first like to explain the tangible concept to students, citing real-world examples. Next, it is appropriate to transition to explaining the details of the concept/equation at hand. Finally, most importantly, I believe in extensive practice of multiple problems. It is especially helpful to show students how to solve problems in different ways which arrive at the same answer. This helps reinforce the concept and practice.
Since my undergraduate years at Georgia Tech, I have been teaching college and high school physics to family members and friends. In 2009, I began teaching for two metro Atlanta tutoring firms. A Little Bit About Me...

My years of experience have taught me that no two students are alike, especially in the 'tutoring' arena. I find the students strengths and create a positive learning environment that students actually enjoy! My students tell me they can't believe how fast the time goes; and look forward to the next lesson. My teaching style creates a feeling of well-being, confidence and self esteem that the student can 'build on' every week. My students leave me each week with a sense of accomplishment and a big smile. And I too, always look forward to the next lesson! My students succeed.
I was introduced to teaching as a guitar teacher and loved the field of education ever since. My first school experience was teaching 7th and 8th grade social studies in Queens, N.Y.in 1979. Finally, I found my niche in high school teaching various subjects such as Physical Science, Biology, Social Studies and ... read more

In 2006 I taught graphic design topics at Westwood College. In 2007 I taught the same subject at The Creative Circus (roughly equivalent to an MBA program for designers, writers, photographers, and art directors). In 2008 I taught in the design department for Georgia State University. This summer I traveled to a remote region in India to teach English. I have taught GRE prep for the past 3 years, covering the verbal, quantitative (math), and analytical writing (essay) areas. As a test prep teacher, I have a close knowledge of students' approach to graduate school, and the process of improving their chances of acceptance to schools of choice. I am academically qualified and more especially interested in teaching humanities courses.

A Little Bit About Me...

I find every student is different & so it is up to me to be able to acclimate to a style that works best for that particular student. Learning music is not easy for someone who has never played an instrument before, so I have to present the information in a way that it is not confusing or overwhelming for the student. Being patient & listening to students is the best approach I can take when teaching new concepts. But teaching goes beyond just being patient, I strive to be positive & I’m always encouraging my students.
As a member of a musical family, I grew up w/ a profound passion for creating & understanding music. My first instrument of choice was playing the drums, I started playing when I was 12 years old. Taking lessons from the famed Wilco drummer, Glen Kotche & getting involved with the school Jazz program were highlights from my high school days. I went on to attend ... read more

I have been playing stringed instruments for 23 years. My main area of focus is the guitar, and I have toured the country playing in groups. I enjoy teaching and have done so for years privately. I currently have students via Skype and have been chosen to teach on the Cayamo singer/songwriter cruise in 2011 after a successful workshop series I had on this year's cruise that featured many of my heroes. My degree in Recording Arts came in handy when I lived in Nashville from 97-2002 where I did session work and recorded with groups in some of the finest studios in the world. I am constantly trying to learn new things in music and have a knack for explaining things in a unique way that makes learning fun.
I love to teach and live for those "Ah Ha" moments that happen along the way. I do realize every student is different so I have ways of evaluating what works and customizing th ... read more

More About This Tutor...

The last five years have seen me working in research and development roles, but teaching math and science has always been a dream of mine and it is time for a career change. Having earned BS and MS degrees in materials engineering, my technical education as well as my career have provided almost daily practice of chemistry, physics, and mathematics. I want to not just teach students something, but also show them how and why it is relevant and useful. Aside from my technical background, I am also a semi-professional jazz guitarist of 20 years experience. I have played with many groups of various genres of music over the years, but jazz has been my primary passion since high school and I currently play with a jazz quintet named Style Points.
As mentioned above, I want to demonstrate to students the real-world applications of scientific and mathematical principles. This will not only ... read more
