When a question is asked, I am not going to simply just tell the student the answer. I would want them to think it out and try and figure it out for themselves. I would however guide them in the right direction and even ask them other questions they may know in order for them to figure out the intial problem. I feel that these types of interactions are a more effective way of learning. Also, writing things down helps tremedously because not only are you thinking it, but you're seeing it and reading it as well. I love every aspect of music. I am a self taught guitarist as were Roy Clark and BB King. I learned on an old wooden guitar my dad found. I have played since I was nine. I would watch the neighbor boys play because they had lessons and I didn't. My experience includes playing contemporary Christian music with my church praise band.
