I like students to be comfortable, enjoy their experiences with me as much as possible, and learn not only the material they need to study, but also habits and practices that will help them with future studies.
My teaching experience is broad across subjects and age levels. Learning and teaching excite me and I like to think that attitude rubs off on my students. I first tutored for two years during high school when a family friend asked me to help him teach kids chess at four elementary schools. I thoroughly enjoyed these experiences and developed a patient tutoring style that emphasizes critical listening. I continued to tutor in college, after a professor recommended me to the Central Washington University Writing Center. For me, teaching is the most rewarding experience you could ask for. I love to teach, whether its an elementary student, high school student, or even someone in their college years. Patience is the most important thing to keep in mind when tutoring. Many people just keep talking a pushing when a student just isn't getting it.
