A Little Bit About Me...

I hold a BA in English from Saint Olaf College and studied a variety of subjects during my time in the Liberal Arts program. I have worked with many college graduates helping them prepare for the GRE in both the English and Math sections, as well as assisting high school students in preparing for their SATs and ACTs. I have also worked with younger students helping them learn beginner level French as I studied French, English and math through college. I am able to tutor math from beginners through geometry, algebra, and pre-calculus.

With the combination of my education and my work experience, I have developed a strong understanding languages and communication. I have received two Bachelor's degrees: a BA in English and a BA in German. I have also spent time overseas, teaching English as a second language, and experience which has helped me develop the skills to commmunicate not only the "rules" of the language (proper usage, grammar, etc.) but also to help my students develop the abilities to determine on their own how it should be used.

With regards to tutoring, I feel that it is extremely important to understand and draw on the student’s learning style. As a kinesthetic learner, I frequently promote tactile learning while also introducing elements of visual, auditory, and/or reading/writing exercises, depending on what works best for the student. My emphasis was in YOUNG ADULT LITERATURE, and I have read and reread all the books in the California State High School Curriculum multiple times.
