Based on my experiences, I’ve had to explain and discuss accounting principles, theories, and practices with colleagues, students, professors, executives of companies, as well as their related operational departments. I feel that I am able to explain the subject matter to different types of groups with ease and really enjoy teaching and in turn learning from them. I was a substitute teacher part time while completing my undergraduate degree and have trained and mentored new colleagues and co-workers. My teaching style would be classified as patient. I was diagnosed with a learning disability myself when I was in third grade, so I know how differently children learn. I was lucky enough to have patient resource teachers to work with and allow me to find my way of learning the material led by them, of course. So I think tutoring is extremely important for success of our children. I even received tutoring all the way up through high school and was grateful to my private tutor for, again, helping me to learn the material in a way that made sense to me and I strive to do the same for the children I teach.

Personally, I prefer hands on - lab style workshops - than endless lecturing and note taking. I like to grasp the student's maturity level and aptitude and go from there. All students need individualized attention, but it is also important to have team building skills inherent in the coursework so they learn to both help themselves and others. The first thing is to teach the love of learning, the second is 'how to learn,' and the third thing is the motivation to develop mastery. Most students do not learn how to study, learn how to learn, and if their parents are not educated, they usually never learn these skills.
