Since graduating from Eastern Oregon University, a college known for its education programs, I have dedicated most of my adult life to teaching. I have a BS degree in secondary education with endorsements in advanced mathematics and health education. A Little Bit About Me...

I remember my first tutor in junior high. He helped me gain an understanding beyond just the numbers and the formulas. From his example, I started tutoring friends as a sophomore in high school. I enjoy helping others see beyond the numbers, in understanding the basics, and seeing how everything fits together. As a student who graduated with honors from Sonoma State University in December of 2009, I was driven to achieve the highest level of excellence in education. I have earned my BA in Biology, and have taken 21 units of Chemistry, and 12 units of Math. I have also gained many hours of experience using Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, while writing research papers, laboratory reports, and essays. I had a specialized teaching credential associated with my Nursing license and taught at the Junior College level in that field. I retired from Nursing in 2006 and gave up my license as well as the credential.I taught for four years out of Quincy, Ca.
Making lessons interesting I feel is key to retaining student interest. Using real life and practical examples are an efective means of getting a point accross. Encouraging student participation and using clues to prompt the student to use reasoning will allow the student to be able to solve problems, sometimes in areas where the student has no experience. I love art and feel very strongly that it should be a very important part of everyone's education. Students are anxious to actively participate. I do a demonstration while I lecture on a particular point, i.e., perspective, form, light, color theory, etc., then let them have time to execute a given assignment in class. At this point I give them personal attention. I have a "critque" at the end of the session and have them participate. I require constructive comments so as not to discourage anyone and to promote the notion that everyone has a unique and valuable point of view . Homework is assigned and I ask students to keep a sketchbook, which should be drawn in daily. I ask to see these ungraded books intermittently throughout the course.
