Helping children work through learning issues is my passion.

When working from my office, I like to use hands on activities that keep children engaged. However, since working online I use many different websites and materials that allow children to be actively engaged. I use Orton Gilligham and Wilson reading programs as well as my own materials. Helping children with learning issues is something I am very passionate about. Building self confidence is key to growing and learning.
I have 22 years experience teaching public education k-6. I began my career as a special education teacher and then moved into regular education classrooms. Each individual learns in a different manner. Some students are visual learners, while others are better served by a hands-on environment. Using varied instructional strategies is a technique I have practiced when working with students who are struggling with a particular concept or subject matter. The key to learning is to be engaged in and excited about the learning process. If a student is struggling with a particular subject, establishing a connection to that subject is essential. A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored fellow classmates in the past throughtout middle school and high school. As a UNCP alumnus, I currently hold a BS in Biology. I have tutored peers in the past during my second year at UNCP. Subjects that I am familiar are science and math. I have a lot of experience in the science field. I currently work full-time in a lab using my science degree. I’m eager to work as a tutor and use my experience to help advance someone else’s education.
I have approximately one year of experience of professional teaching working with a grant funded program at UNCP. With this program was very hands-on and interactive with the students. I worked directly with the professors in the science department.

Even though parents are the initial teachers, it will take a professional to instill all of the rules of phonics and to teach students decoding skills as they begin to read.
