Because each student, young or old, responds to different learning stimuli (graphical or verbal) at diffrent rates, I always try to get to know my student first. I then try to tailor my tutoring to how they respond best and retain what they've learned. Teaching children is a passion of mine. They soak in the knowledge like a sponge. I am patient, easy going, but also know the task at hand. I try to find the best way to teach that individual child. My students often say I can’t be a teacher because they “just get it" when I explain. Even so, my degree is in math and I've taught professionally and privately. I have a history of maintaining high scores and would rather show why something works than how to follow steps. I don't expect students to love math or do it "my way" but I want students to know math isn't scary. When I came to Hawaii from Fiji to attend college, I was very interested in learning more about computers and what they can do. I noticed that most of my American friends could operate a computer fairly well but could not solve simple math problems like Algebra or Trigonometry. I talked to my adviser and found out that my high school math in Fiji could cross credit for all the math I required to earn a BS degree in Information Systems.
