A Little Bit About Me...

I finished my lower division coursework at a california community college (AHC) and earned a total of six associate degrees. While at the community college, I administered practice test for students in MESA in mathematics (Calculus 1,2,3, and 4) while also working the maximum of 20 hours a week in the campus math lab (walk-in tutoring). Furthermore, I attended and graduated from UCLA with a bachelor's degree in physics and a minor in mathematics and finished the necessary coursework to apply to all medical school programs in to the country. I tutored for side money while attending UCLA. Currently, I'm a graduate student at SDSU. I'm two courses and a Master's thesis away from receiving my Master's degree in Physics.

I retired last year (2008) after 30 years as a Public Servant (law enforcement) with the City of San Diego. I have also retired from the Naval Reserve as a Master-At-Arms Chief in 2006. I have taught, counseled and mentored individuals throughout my career. I initially studied Physics and Math at college level and changed major after employment with the city. I attained my BS degree in Criminal Justice. My future plan is to transition to a teaching profession and teach a subject I love most, and that is Math.

It depends on the amount of time that one dedicates that will determine whether they will understand the material. My approach to teaching is to go step by step and not cutting any corners. I teach my students to take the time to go through every step to condition them into doing it correctly. I usually use a multiplicity of approaches to help the student better understand the big picture and keep their perspective. I encourage the student to look at the problem with a logical perspective and estimate of what is happening in general terms as a reference point for when they are making their calculations.
