A Little Bit About Me...

I have participated in diverse programs to acclimate myself with necessary skills to communicate and work with young adults. Such programs include the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program and the Elementary and Secondary Education Association (ESEA) at SUNY Geneseo. I have also participated in the Geneseo math club and volunteered as a tutor for local schools near Geneseo as well as schools in my home town of Endwell. I completed my first student teaching assignment at Canandaigua Middle School teaching an eighth grade math class and my second placement at East High School in Rochester where I taught two Algebra courses, a Geometry course and, a Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry course.

Individualization is an important part of my teaching style. I think it is important to identify what the student needs to work on and present it in a way the student can grasp the concept and enjoy learning. The student has to enjoy learning to succeed. I try to present material in such a way that the student will find it interesting and use different techniques to help them remember what they have learned. I also use the pre-teaching/re-teaching strategy. The student doesn't feel overwhelmed with the newly presented material, more confident to participate in class, more willing to ask a question, and is more successful with class work and homework assignments.
