A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a Physics Faculty at Wichita State University. Before that I had been working as a Graduate teaching assistant in the department of Physics, New Mexico State University, where I taught integrated Lab physics courses to both physics and non – physics majors. This position enabled me to provide these students with a “head start” in mastering conceptual skills in general physics courses. My Labs were integrated rather than traditional. I used a variety of techniques such as computer simulations, PowerPoint presentation, group discussions, videos presentations, online tools and a variety of homework schemes to beautifully unveil the various concepts in Physics.

In conclusion, I think that I can still be successful in teaching. I however, need to find what area that I can be most successful at. I think that with my non-traditional training and experience, that a similar position would give me the opportunity to be most successful. One thing that I have thought a great deal about these past few weeks, is that I am entering middle age and must be a success at something. In the past, I have found the most enjoyment and fulfillment working with special needs and incarcerated students. I hope that this time, t hat I can be more persistent, responsible, and realistic in my teaching and counseling career.

Being a big sister has always been my favorite job; therefore, I have always sought out opportunities to mentor. I believe that each child is unique and learns at his or her own pace, and in her or his own special way. Each person understands concepts differently, and I believe that, to be effective, a teacher must discover from what angle to approach a lesson, for the student's optimum ability to absorb the information.
