I like to tutor like a teacher. I give out study guides, quizzes, tests, checkpoints, and some small projects. I keep track of the students grade. I do not provide supplies. I require the student to have their coloring supplies, scissors, and other basic supplies.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in starting with the basics in all things. Reading starts with Phonics, and writing starts with Spelling and Vocabulary, as well as old-fashioned handwriting skills. An absolute staple of learning, in my opinion, is frequent reading for pleasure – whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, novels or comic books. I am patient and love to teach, even reluctant learners. I remember what it was like to not want to sit around and do schoolwork, so I don't expect children to be eager to do it. However, I know from experience that those reluctant learners can be turned into students who really enjoy discovering new information and discussing what they’ve learned. I enjoy working with students. It is important that teachers see that children learn differently and really accommodate each child as an individual. I began by building a relationship with each child, so I know how they learn and what are all the interests. From there, I facilitate the teaching, by really letting the child learn his best way. In teaching, one must realize that students learn at different rates of speed. Consequently, you need to find a pace at which the student feels comfortable. As most of my experience and interest is in mathematics, I always want to see a student be able to solve problems on their own. It's a great feeling when a student overcomes a hurdle and they realize that they can get the right answer.
In my year of graduate school I accepted a position as a teaching assistant. It was my first opportunity to stand in front of a class. It was a very rewarding experience to be able to teach and also help people in subject areas of which you have great expertise and interest. More recently, I have had vast experience working with middle-school students and am currently doing in-home tutoring.
