My comments on tutoring Physics : Expert at all Calculus-Based Physics and General (Algebra-Based) Physics. Particularly good at breaking down the main concepts: Measurement and the Language of Physics, Kinematics (The Physics of Motion), Dynamics (Forces and Motion), Impulse and Momentum, Conservation of Energy, Periodic and Simple Harmonic Motion, Heat and Temperature, Wave Energy, "Static" Electricity, Electricity and Electrical Energy, Magnetism and Magnetic Force, Electromagnetism and Electromagnets, Nature and Behavior of Light, Particles and Interactions and the Standard Model, Astronomy, Physics and Physical Science, History and Philosophy of Physics.

If you watch me closely during our sessions, you can see me secretly paying keen attention to you and how you learn best. For example, you might say, "It LOOKS like they want me to factor here." And I'll think, "Aha! LOOKS. Maybe you're a visual learner and like to SEE things explained and SEE examples. (About 80% of students are visual learners.) On the other hand, you might say, "It sounds like they want me to factor here." And I'll think, "Aha! sounds. Maybe you like to HEAR things explained, and you're a keen listener and like to hear things described clearly and specifically. Physics - Clearing Up A Murky Subject

I'm generally a fun, happy person, not the classic awkward engineer. :) I'd love to turn a student's "trouble subject" into a point of personal accomplishment, through tutoring that he/she will actually enjoy. I think tutoring comes easily to me because my mind sees multiple ways to understand each problem, which allows me to alter my explanation based on the student's personal understanding. Each of us learns and thinks quite differently, so I enjoy being able to present the material in a way that catches the interest of the student. My reward is the moment I see understanding 'click' into place and they take off doing the rest of the problem without me.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught just about all secondary levels of science throughout my teaching career. I have typically worked in county schools where each member of the department had to take on multiple tasks. I have taught chemistry, physics, biology, earth science, environmental science, horticulture, and principles of technology in my twenty-five year career. I have often taught lower math classes as well, ranging from Math 8 to Algebra I and geometry.
I really enjoy working with young teens. I have worked in high schools for 25 years in Virginia and West Virginia. I have always had good rapport with teens and have enjoyed interacting with them. I have been trained in the Constructivist approach to teaching, but have had to change my style of teaching in order to cover materials necessary for SOL testing in recent years.
