As a college English professor and high school English teacher with an MA in English, I have had the opportunity to help many young people improve their writing and critical thinking skills. I have also tutored students from middle school to college level English on many occasions. I can help students at all skill levels become better writers and thinkers.
My teaching style is best described as modern Socratic method. Questioning to elicit critical thinking is the essence of education. Recognizing that each person has his/her own learning style, I emphasize "application" of material learned. I do this primarily by providing examples of information taught and require my students to do the same. My approach to teaching is to create a friendly environment with positive expectations to enhance the learning experience.
Having been devoted to the welfare of children and families and valuing education highly throughout my life, I find tutoring a satisfying occupation. After vounteering my services for many years, I attained formal degrees in education, psychology, and counseling, with very high GPAs. I taught psychology and sociology for several years and have also tutored K-college individually and in groups for many years.
