As a graduate of Elizabeth City State University, I pursued an education in Computer Science with a minor in mathematics. I have gained experience in the these two fields in which I excel in. I have had experience tutoring young children at my church(math), as well as helping other peers during my tenure at Elizabeth City State University. Students generally perform better with hands-on practice. I provide multiple opportunities for hands-on and guided practice as time permits. Associate new concepts to familiar ones. Our memories are largely associative in nature. Therefore, providing connections from new concepts back to well established ones increases our retention and recall. This is especially important in building up understanding in mathematics. Provide relevant examples. A student who is actively enaged in the lesson will learn more.

As a tutor, I try to identify the learning strategies of my students and then build off of those. For example, if I notice that a student is a visual learner, then I will try to incorporate diagrams, models, and schematics that can assist the student in understanding the subject matter or solving the problem. If, on the other hand, a student learns best by reading, then I will provide step by step instructions of how to find answers to various problems, or provide guidance as to how to identify important elements from a text.
