Genetics is one of my top subjects! A large component of my graduate research utilized population genetics to answer fisheries questions.

I successfully completed a B.S. in Marine Biology from the College of Charleston in 2004. During my undergraduate career I was able to participate in a research cruise at sea and conduct independent research. I later worked for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, Marine Resources Division, conducting research in a variety of fields including mariculture and stock enhancement. In 2006 I began the graduate program in Marine Biology at the College of Charleston. While there, I taught two semesters of Molecular Biology Lab as a Teaching Assistant. The best way to describe my teaching style is to find a creative way to remember material. For example, I have a child that had to memorize his prepositions. We made up a song that included them all, in order. It turned out to something like this....ABOARD a ship AS we were traveling ABOUT eight knots, etc. This style was very effective for memorizing. For subjects that require more understanding than memorizing, I prefer my "teach and try" method. This means that I go through multiple problems with a student explaining the steps involved. Then, I set-up a mock test to test their abilities solo. I therefore can grasp their understanding and pinpoint their weaknesses.
