I love science and love to teach! I believe that teaching is an intentional effort. It’s not just about presenting information, but also about motivating. I set high standards, but also emphasize that science can be fun. As a tutor, I will provide a positive environment that focuses on what can be done, not on what can’t. My teaching approach is hand-on and my experience as a consultant provides me with a variety of real-life examples of how science is used and applied. I approach teaching and tutoring as an exercise in problem solving. It requires assessment of the student's background, previously mastered skills, learning style, and engagement with the content. I believe that anyone can be taught anything; the key is developing an engaged, encouraged student with the fundamental knowledge to grasp the concepts at hand. Sometimes this requires remediation of specific skills. Other times, a student needs to understand the big picture so concepts can take root. Some students may require a visual demonstration while others master concepts best by diving head first into the content and asking questions when they arrive at a sticking point. I have earned my B.S. in Business Administration, studying many different courses. During my undergrad years, I was able to tutor graduate and undergraduate in their areas of weakness. These subjects included Financial Accounting, Micro and Macroeconomics, Literature, and many more. I have been able to teach them but also learn from them.
