A Little Bit About Me...

As a recreation major, I have held a number of jobs working with children of all ages. My first job as a lifeguard and swim instructor helped me understand how to work with children ages three to fifteen and really get a feel for how their brains operate and the proper learning styles to use for each age. Moving on to my job as a camp counselor and staff member at 4-H Memorial Camp in Monticello I really started to familiarize myself with young adults and the way they behave in different settings.
I am a very laid-back, out going person but I never stray from the main goal at hand. I strive to help educate children the best way possible, and would like to make a difference in their life. While attending Danville Area Community College from 2003 to 2005, I tutored middle school and high school students through a program called AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). This included individual and group tutoring sessions in all subjects. I mostly tutored in mathematics as this is my specialty. After transferring to Eastern Illinois University, I began my pursuit of a teaching certificate in secondary education with my concentration in mathematics. While at EIU, I had many experiences teaching in a classroom setting. I also occasionally tutored high school and college students in both physics and math.
