A Little Bit About Me...

For just over a decade I have been involved in some form of peer education or mentoring. As a senior in high school, I tutored students in mathematics and science. As an ACS Certified Chemist, I have been exposed to upper level mathematics, chemistry and physics, but am still required to use writings skills in preparing various reports and papers. The opportunity to be a Teaching Assistant in upper-level chemistry and mathematics was rewarding and reinforcing at the same time. As a student at Lynchburg College, I have had the opportunity to serve as a Peer Assisted Study Session Leader in general and organic chemistry. I will complete my BS in Biomedical Science in May 2011, with a wide range a science experience, from immunology to organic chemistry. The past 3 years, I have led PASS tutor sessions helping classmates understand and learn the material.

I know that each student has an incredible amount of potential and the trick to unlocking it is not in forcing a set way of understanding ideas, but in approaching each problem from several different fronts and working towards a total understanding of one concept before moving on to the next. Secondly, laughter and enjoyment need to be part of the learning process.
