In this, I am flexible... Ideally, it should be comfortable enough for the student.
Currently, I am a student attending the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. At UT, I am majoring in Microbiology and maintaining a 3.18 GPA. During my education, I have had great opportunities to study the sciences and mathematics; however, history and philosophy are fun to study as well. In my studies of science, I have studied through all introductory biology and chemistry classes including both sections of organic chemistry. My mathematic studies have taken me from Algebra to Differential Equations and Calculus 3 (Multi-Variable). I enjoy interacting with students of all ages and levels in a variety subject matter. Generally, I am easy going and can schedule easily unless it interferes with a work shift or school class. Thank you for reviewing this statement and I look forward to ... read more

Bachelor of the Arts in Economics, experienced professional

From a family of teachers, getting concepts through to others, ones that I fully understand, is a practice that of which I find myself to be both very positive and successful.
I completed the pre-pharmacy undergraduate program at Maryville College, which means I have a strong base in science. Throughout my career, I have often trained colleagues in Microsoft Excel, programming simple solutions in Excel to automate processes, as well as in writing composition. I have professional experience across a broad spectrum of business.

My comments on tutoring Chemistry : I never made below a "B+" average in this subject, and understand the dynamics, processes, and procedures behind this subject, including the periodic table of elements, as well as balancing chemical equations.

I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.
I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. My academic record is very strong, and I believe empowering those I work with every single time. The only pre-requisites are that you have to be willing to learn, and learn how to learn.

I have tutored for around 3 years, and I see success with the kids that I work with because I know how to engage and effectively teach them because I was their age not too long ago!

I love working with college bound high school students. I believe that proper preparation at the high school level will determine how easy or hard the transition to college will be. The difference between earning a scholarship or not may determine whether a child goes to college or enters the work force performing entry level work. Education is the key to making the world a better place for everyone.
In high school, I was a member of the Governors Peer Study Program where I tutored lower classmen in the areas of mathematics and science. I graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2002 where I earned a Bachelors degree in Business. I have a strong background from work experience in statistics and logistical management.

My experience starts as a chemist in the nuclear industry, then proceeding to an environmental professional in the manufacturing industry, and finally as an adjunct professor of law for a distance education university. I have worked primarily in the utility industry, with short periods of employment in the aluminum industry and semiconductor industry.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always loved children. Children are precious and all have very unique learning techniques. When I was a senior at Maryville High School, I taught Spanish to first graders. My partner and I were in charge of making lesson plans and fulfilling these plans for each class. I really enjoyed seeing the children get excited about learning.
I enjoy seeing children learn new things. I know that every child learns differently. It is important to get to know the children that you are teaching and figure out what teaching technique fits there needs. I feel like I do an excellent job of portraying what I am trying to teach.

My goal in attending the University of Tennessee was initially for the purpose of doing research; this led me to pursue a BS in BCMB.I began volunteering with middle school, high school, and college students at my church in 2005,which revealed to me my love of working with students this age.Over the past five years, I have tutored students in math and science, from fifth grade math to college-level chemistry. Each person learns differently. It is a primary responsibility of an instructor to find a method that will resonate and stick with the student to ensure success. Any student should be given every opportunity to find that internal gratification that only comes with mastery over a particular obstacle. That method of accomplishment, in turn, becomes habit forming. And as an instructor, little compares with the feeling when an idea takes root within a student.
I have extensive experience in academic work, specifically in the areas of math and science. In earning both a BS and MS in Materials Science and Engineering, I not only developed an understanding of mathematical and scientific principles, but I learned how to work and communicate in groups to further common interests. As a graduate student at the University of Washington, I served as a teaching assistant, leading both recitatio ... read more

I have an educational background in biology, but also have developed strong English and writing skills during college, and since, through journal-keeping and creative writing. My degree at UNC-Chapel Hill emphasized liberal arts, thus providing a well-rounded educational experience. I did especially well in college at writing laboratory reports in chemistry and biology classes. I have maintained an interest in the life sciences through reading science-related magazines, such as Natural History and National Geographic, and spending much of my time off exploring the natural world on hiking trips. Due to having strengths in both science and English, I believe that I could tutor in either discipline. I tutored an elementary school boy in reading as a volunteer tutor at Asheville Middle School during the 2007-2008 school year. The Asheville-Buncombe Education Coalition administered the ... read more
