After I earned my BFA, I started working towards my Master of Art in Art History. I have an understanding of most studio art forms and extensive knowledge of Art History. When I started working on my thesis, I joined the Minnesota Reading Corps, and have been teaching early literacy ever since. For the last three years, I have been working in Head Start classes, preparing children for kindergarten. I am currently enrolled in the FasTrack program at Bemidji State University working on getting my teaching license in Visual Arts K-12. I have been researching the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets because I plan on using them as a base for the children that I work with at Community Action Duluth through the Circles of Support program. I enjoy working with children. My volunteering experience with children at Grant Elementary gave me opportunity to realize how much I enjoy teaching. I tend to teach things in a visual way. Drawing pictures, diagrams and using visual aides are the best ways I have witnessed to teach kids. I also think a structured reward system is HUGE in motivating kids to succeed. You need to find out what motivates your kid (money, toys, etc) and set up a system where he/she can earn these rewards through academic success. I am currently a medical student at the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth. Before I started medical school I worked as a tutor for six years with two teenage boys with autism. As the manager and head chemist of a solid fuels testing laboratory I have many years of experience training both high school and college interns. I acquired a Bachelors of Science in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry from the University of MN, Duluth. I also have a broad math and physics background, and have a great enthusiasm for both.
