A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating from Vanderbilt University I taught 5th grade for 2 years while working on my Master's at TSU. I then moved to the Knoxville area and taught K until my son was born in 2000. We then moved to Wisconsin where I taught in various after school programs until my 2 children were old enough for preschool. I then went back part time and taught 4 K until my 3rd child was born in 2005. Throughout this entire time I tutored various children ages 8 - 15 years if age.
My teaching style can best be described as varied! I believe that children learn in numerous ways, so as an educator it is my responsibility to provide multiple experiences - visual, oral, tactile, etc. A person walking by my classroom would see children smiling, working in groups, accomplishing projects, and would hear noise.

I am also a poet and an inspirational and motivational speaker. I have written poems for my coworkers for twenty years at my employer. I would say that my style of teaching is creative. I stress the fundamentals, making sure of the foundation, but remain creative in the approach that reaches the student. As language is universal and so critial in conveying ideas, I truly enjoy teaching others to express themselves verbally and in writing. I believe it is important to explain the value of a particular subject matter and give a detailed summary of what should be accomplished in the lesson. I utilize a rather formal teaching style, because language has specific "rules" as far as what is correct or incorrect and what is acceptable speech, as opposed to unacceptable slang terminology.
