I have over 15 years experience as a private tutor. My students have ranged from elementary to adult learners seeking teaching licensure. My desire is to find out what teaching style best matches the student's learning style. This may include a Socratic teaching method for some, while others may require a more traditional lecture approach.

After graduating from Vanderbilt University I taught 5th grade for 2 years while working on my Master's at TSU. I then moved to the Knoxville area and taught K until my son was born in 2000. We then moved to Wisconsin where I taught in various after school programs until my 2 children were old enough for preschool. I then went back part time and taught 4 K until my 3rd child was born in 2005. Throughout this entire time I tutored various children ages 8 - 15 years if age.
My teaching style can best be described as varied! I believe that children learn in numerous ways, so as an educator it is my responsibility to provide multiple experiences - visual, oral, tactile, etc. A person walking by my classroom would see children smiling, working in groups, accomplishing projects, and would hear noise.

I hold a Master of Arts degree in Instructional Design, a Master of Arts in Teaching certification in Secondary Education Curriculum and Instruction and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Liberal Arts. During the last 15 years of my professional career I have worked in the education industry.
As an educator, the first task is to determine the educational needs of the students. Next, I assess the student's current level of ability to identify the areas of the curriculum that may present barriers to them. In order to eliminate those barriers, I may need to modify the teaching strategy to meet the needs of the student. It is important to tailor the lessons and presentations so that all students have a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a Chemical Engineer I have a diverse set of skills upon which to draw upon for a variety of subjects. As a substitute teacher, I have been called upon to engage students on a one-on-one basis in the classroom at both the middle and high school level. I know first hand that most students just need a little more coaching outside the classroom to raise their level of excellence. I college I tutored my fraternal brothers in chemistry, free of charge. Science and math would be my preferred courses. As a Quality Engineer I tutored and trained my auditors in the audit fundamentals for over a decade.
I am also a poet and an inspirational and motivational speaker. I have written poems for my coworkers for twenty years at my employer. I would say that my style of teaching is creative. I stress the fundamentals, making sure of the foundation, but remain creative in the approach that ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have bsc in physics/math/electricalengineering.I have been teaching maths and physics for more than 15 years in different parts of the world.Eventhough currently I am working as an electrical engineer, I teach physics and math for higher grades in my spare time.
I challenge the students by raising a question or writing a problem on the board and asking students to share their ideas with me . This provides the students with the opportunity to think about the problem on their own, to determine their own strategy. During the discussion, they also have the advantage of seeing other ways of approaching the problem. When the problem proves too challenging, I usually give them small step by step hints and direct them to the answer. I also make sure that we spend enough time discussing all the ideas suggested by students, not limiting the discussion to the ones I know are correct or ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I developed a love for language, writing and learning as a high school student, so majoring in English was the natural choice for me. I graduated high schoool with honors and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Millsaps College, a small liberal arts college, well-known for its academic excellence in MS and across the nation. After college I worked as a substitute instructor for all grade levels in my home town. Later, I worked for a summer as a news writer for the local daily news, The Vicksburg Evening Post. Several of my articles on the closing a state-run charity hospital won a MS Press Association Award of Excellence in 1989.
As language is universal and so critial in conveying ideas, I truly enjoy teaching others to express themselves verbally and in writing. I believe it is important to explain the value of a particular subject matter and give a detailed summary of wha ... read more
