I try to be really patient because I know some subjects aren't very logical to some students.
I have been tutoring ever since elementary school. Since I was the only one that knew how to read, I had to assist in the others' learning of Phonetic sounds. My comments on tutoring Chemistry : I am very familiar with all branches of chemistry up to PhD level, and did a two-year post-doc fellowship.

I taught university chemistry for many years, especially the math-heavy courses. After retirement, a friend asked if I would assist a home-schooling family in the sciences. I embraced the occasion, and increased my clientele substantially by word of mouth. Since then people have been seeking me out. I liken tutoring sessions to the repair of a crumbling pyramid. I believe that every student is capable of learning and understanding the material that is presented to them in class, but that due to some reason, he or she does not understand some of the basic concepts that later material adds onto. Hence, the base of their pyramid is unstable. Usually in the first tutoring session, I try to gauge where the student is supposed to be in the material while at the same time trying to figure out where the missing foundation stones are.
