I have worked at Mingo Valley Christian School since 2010 in a variety of capacities: substitute teacher, teacher's aide, AIM tutor. I work mainly with lower elementary students on phonics and beginning reading, but I also have experience in teaching upper elementary reading and math. My comments on tutoring Elementary Vocabulary : Vocabulary is the key to understanding what you read. For English Language Learners, I use a lot of Visuals. If they understand the lexicon of the word, the antonym, synonym prefixes, suffixes and the parts of speech, the student will have an excellent understanding of the world. I believe in allowing kids to make words by using letter cards and then using the words they make into a sentence. I think Vocabulary games are very fun for the students.

Depending on the students learning style and the subject, my teaching style will differ. If the student is a visual learner than I will create PowerPoints and other visual aids to help them. If the student is kinesthetic than I may create a project for them to do (if the parent is ok with it), or I may have them interact more during the tutoring than with the visual learner. Lastly, if the student is an auditory learner than I will create/find videos for them to understand the material or create a song. Whatever way your child learns the best I will tailor an experience just for them.
