There is no better feeling than the feeling you get when a student has that light bulb go off and they finally catch on to a concept. I have an excellent background in all subjects and I have also worked in the construction industry. Therefore I am able to explain where this knowledge will be of value to the student in the future. I have taught in the public school systems for 40+ years. I retired when I hit the rule of 90, but found that I missed the kids. As the manager and head chemist of a solid fuels testing laboratory I have many years of experience training both high school and college interns. My approach to teaching involves finding the best learning venue for each individual student. I don't believe in 'fitting' the student to the method, rather finding the method that works for each individual. I use phonetics when that is the simplest method, the challenge of games/competition when that is what clicks for my student. I am currently a medical student at the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth. Before I started medical school I worked as a tutor for six years with two teenage boys with autism. Under the six years of my tutoring, both of these "disabled" kids were completely mainstreamed and even taking some AP and challenge classes.
