I have always tutored friends and peers in mathematics. I spent the last year helping one of my good friends learn calculus and have volunteered as a tutor at Falmouth High School in Falmouth, Maine in order to help students learn algebra. I believe all students have the ability to succeed. In my experience, the most important thing to remember is that all students learn differently, and sometimes what seems like an impossible task just needs to be presented differently for better understanding. Relating the material to situations and applications that are relevant and familiar to that particular student is a much more productive and beneficial way to have students retain information.
