I tutored English composition in the writing lab as work-study for St. Petersburg Junior College to assist financial aid for my Associates degree. I also tutored disabled students at the University of South Florida in writing skills. I held a composition writing component to the Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Program at the Training School Boys. I taught ESL for the Cape Verdean Community Development Center in Pawtucket. I also taught GED classes at the Woodlawn Community Center in Pawtucket.
I have recently learned to incorporate meaning-centered philosophy (Viktor Frankl) to my teaching with a Portfolio methodology. My tutoring style is very friendly and supportive. I'm much more like a coach than a teacher. I work closely with each student to identify stumbling blocks and I introduce alternate ways of understanding that concept working interactively with the student until they understand it. I believe working in this way insures that the student is responsible for their own work, yet knows that if they are stuck I will help them through the areas which are hard for them.

After completing my BA in English with a writing degree, and then getting my M. Ed in Elementary Education, I am a fourth grade teacher. I am very passionate about education and helping my students to do their best.

The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive).
