"A reason to write I seek to find.."

I have recently graduated from college. During my time at CSI I founded and ran the writing club "A Reason To Write" for three years. The club focused on helping students develop their creative writing skills. We also helped tutor students who needed assistance in writing essays. Part of my job as a leader in this organization was to develop lesson plans and activities designed to help sharpen the abilities of the club members. Under my leadership we received the Academic Club award in 2013 and Club of the year in 2014.

Highly Experienced Teacher/Director looking to help students

My experience entails a well rounded experience of teaching students from preK to adult. My most important position was acting as Director of Education for Sylvan Learning, where I basically ran the learning center. I supervised teachers and all student programs, conferred with parents from the beginning to the end of their experience with Sylvan, and did so much more to develop a positive experience with all clients and teachers involved. I have taught Elementary Level, High School Level, and substitute taught in Middle School Level. I worked for a company called SmartApple, where we graded statewide standardized testing. My specialty was in marking the writing portion. I have so much more experience, and I love helping students to succeed at any age. Please contact me for further information on how my qualifications can match your needs.

A Little Bit About Me...

Education: Montclair State University BA - Art History BA - General Humanities Minor - Art History Other - Sigma Alpha Lambda Honors Society I am a museum educator and professional writer. Museum Education: I began volunteering with a local museum in the fourth grade and have continued ever since. I have always preferred working in living history museums as opposed to the big, dusty museums with everything behind glass beside little plaques that are too wordy even for industry professionals to find interesting. I've had many wonderful experiences portraying real individuals as well as no-name individuals from the Revolutionary War all the way up through the first half of the 20th century. Real, tangible history is what I always aim for - I can cook on a wood burning stove and know the basics of pre-industrialized farming, just to name a few things. Writing: I ... read more

My teaching style is fair, but firm. I am a strict believer in following directions and organization as a basis for any subject taught, and I strive to help my students understand this process as they go through their educational careers. My role is not just as educator, I am a director in my student's study skills, for it is when they understand this, that they can truly be successful. I believe in designing creative, original ways to present lessons. I am in this career because I love what I do, and I am good at it, which is apparent to my students, their parents, and my direct supervisors.
As an English educator, I firmly believe that the more experience you acquire, the more effective your teaching style becomes. I focus on starting small and helping the student develop on their own. For example, when I teach how to write a strong essay, we write many drafts of an introduction. Then, we write many drafts of body paragraphs. Last, we would focus on writing a conclusion. Then, by working seperately on all of an essay's parts, the combined product is much stronger. The art of teaching is similiar to building a house: you start with an idea, then a foundation, and finally the framework.
I volunteered at the Ocean County Library writing center for four years and helped my peers construct, organize, and layout essays. I also proofread, edited, and helped in the creative process of their essays. I am curreently working part-time at Ocean County Library (Lakewood Branch) tutoring k-12 students after school in the S.M.A.R.T kids program.

More About This Tutor...

My main focus when teaching is to "keep it interesting". Students struggle with relating to their teachers and administrators in a classroom or school setting; either because the material in their opinion may be "boring" or the style of teaching is not corresponding with the students style of learning. I like to keep it simple and keep them focused. There are so many distractions and temptations for a student struggling with their school work and social or home life. I take the time to get them back into it. I can help improve reading and comprehension skills, help advance writing skills and creativity all while keeping them interested and entertained.
At Hofstra University I gained not only the experience necessary to work with a diverse group of children and teachers, but also the understanding of how important reading, writing, comprehension, and grammatical skills are in life. ... read more

I would describe my style with one word, "patient." I have a creative approach, an outgoing personality, and an encouraging demeanor. I am after results; I feel that every individual person benefits from various learning techniques and "one certain way" may not work with every student. A degree in the specific subject area, another soon-to-be degree in actually teaching that subject area, and real-world experience in the writing field within notorious companies, make me the most suited instructor to guide a young person to their fullest potential.
I have not only graduated college with a BA in Communications and a specialization in journalism, I am also currently enrolled back in school to earn additional credits for my teaching certification.
