While I was in High School I tutored Elementary students in reading, spelling, science and social studies in all grades. I also tutored high school students in English and math to pass school entry exams. I had a 100% passing rate! During my University career I tutored students in Micro and Macro Economics, all maths, Spanish and Machine Dynamics and Control. I've also received training on how to use different tools to tutor students that understand at different levels. I feel teaching is a calling. I believe all children have gifts, but we teachers must learn how to reach them. I believe in the Multiple Intelligence theory that if students and teachers know best how a student learns, this will help him or her become more successful. I do not use a textbook when teaching. Upon graduation from college, I taught 7th grade English for two years, then Gifted & Talented grades 4-6. I left the field of teaching for marriage and babies. My husband was in the military, so we moved quite often. I homeschooled our two children for most of their elementary years. After that I taught 7th grade Algebra at a private school. I have tutored adults and children off and on over the years in various subjects, from reading to anatomy and math. I believe the most important skill we can impart to children is a love for learning, and a curiosity about life. That, with a firm foundation in reading and math, will take them anywhere they want to go. I do utilize more of a socratic rather than a didactic approach, and endeavor to involve the learner in discovery as much as possible. I have been an educator in the field of education for the past 21 years. Three of those years were spent in upper elementary in the area of Language Arts.
