A Little Bit About Me...

In college I was a nanny to three middle school students for two years. While being their nanny I was also their tutor in all subjects but focused on math. I graduated from SJSU with a major in History and a minor in Mathematics. I substitute taught in January and February 2007 then was a long-term substitute from March until the end of May in a sixth grade math, science, and history combination class. For the past two years I have taught eighth grade Algebra. While teaching I have also tutored a sixth grade student in math.
I believe there are multiple learning styles. One of my goals as a teacher is to find each students' learning style and teach to fit their needs. I believe that practice makes perfect but also that learning needs to be fun. I set the bar high for my students and do my best to help motivate them to reach a high standard.

In college, I was taught to organize topics in Math, Science and English, using outlines. This ensured that I studied all of the material presented in class. During my career, I use the same method to grasp difficult concepts. As a technical advisor, I shared my knowledge with clients, answering questions and solving problems. As a tutor, I help my students develop strong expertise. At my children's school, I have worked with kids aged 5 to 11 for several years. We work in groups, or individually. I helped my older daughter with her high school English and Math. Reading classic books is a passion of mine. I express a joy for reading to my students, and stress its importance.

I have always been driven to learn and pursue and education, this led me to completing my bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in history from UC- San Diego. I enjoyed tutoring math, science and english while in high school and continued in college. After graduating I volunteered in Chile teaching English which greatly improved my teaching skills and improved my Spanish Language abilities. I currently work as a substitute teacher which allows me to continue to gain teaching experience while I work towards a full credential

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style can best be described through the overall goals of the school I am currently working at: fostering self-esteem through respecting each child's diverse nature; cooperation and communication, students are active participates; global awareness, respecting diversity in all its forms; conflict resolution; encouraging and respecting imagination. Student's works are evaluated on individual bases; student's success is measured by their individual achievements, not based on the success of their peers.
