My comments on tutoring American History : Do you want the history behind the history? Look to me for the reasons why things happened the way they did and how that affected history.

I like to involve all the senses: hearing new material; experiencing the reality of an abstract concept and finally teaching or responding it back to show that the lesson has been absorbed at several levels. I like to have fun with teaching so the student will learn to love learning for his or her self.

Give Real life experience a try

Experience throughout school, work and personal experience dealing with the mentally challenged and dyslexia. my best friend had a son who was dyslexic and also he had ADD and I got him to trust me in babysitting and I taught him various things. I taught him how to read and write he could not accomplish that on his own. He was 11 at the time and I think with kids you have to be creative to teach them and I am very creative. I also have an aunt who is mentally handicapped, and I love spending time with her she is a very giving person. They teach me and it is always a joy to work with them and give something back.

My teaching style might be a bit unorthodox but it is something I have acquired from past teachers and tutors. I have not helped or tutored in a while but I believe I have an easy and simple approach to it. When it comes to physics and chemistry, the math can be learned over night, the concepts are most critical. You can't read a problem and interpret the question word for word. You have to find a way to relate it to real life and what you see everyday. A spinning disk becomes a truck tire, a sound device becomes a sub woofer. Things that you can relate to.

Ever since I was introduced to American Sign Language (ASL), I have been deeply fascinated in the language and its speakers. A year after my initial experience with ASL, I decided to create my own Bachelor's Degree at the University of Utah. I was able to design curriculum pertaining to my desired field of interest. In preparation for college, I knew that in order to get into the kind of small private colleges I was looking for, earning a high enough score on the standardized exams like the SAT and ACT was very important. Although I scored very well on both tests, my writing and reasoning skills underwent great improvement in my college's intensive honors program for accelerated studies. A Little Bit About Me...

Having taught both gifted as well as students with learning disabilities, the one factor I found in common with all of them, is that in order to get them to learn you have to first get them engaged. Although I believe that traditional teaching methods certainly have their place, I am a firm believer in thinking outside of the box, and there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to education. I worked with a lot of students who did not necessarily do well in traditional classroom settings, who suddenly became active participants in their education once I was able to show them that the subject could hold an interest for them outside of the classroom.
