A Little Bit About Me...

I am a listener first and foremost. I want to know what my students expect from me and in what areas s/he regard as most essential to her/his success. I believe all people can learn and understand. It is a pleasure to watch students grow in skill and comprehension and move toward confidence.
I love teaching. I earned my BA before I was old enough to vote. While my classmates were in his/her senior year, I was teaching. Eventually I earned my M.Ed. in Reading, then started School Administration and Adult Education. In all these fields I find similar necessary skills: patience, co-operation among staff and colleagues, knowledge of subject matter, communication with the community and parents and a well defined curriculum. There are many arrays of learning styles. I personally use visually, writing, and seeing the bigger picture. First, the mind can develop a concept or help map out the ideas by seeing the picture to the learning task. Second writing helps to reinforce the concept or idea. Lastly seeing the bigger picture helps to encompass their own ideas as well as the originator ideas.

Throughout my college years, I was involved in coaching high school aged students in baseball as well as younger kids in a baseball camp. During my last year of college, I helped with a after school tutoring program that included students up to the sixth grade. All subjects were covered and tutoring was done in one-on-one as well as small group settings. My bachelor's degree is from a self designed major I had developed to best fit the needs I saw beneficial for teaching in a non-traditional classroom environment. In addition to experience in the classroom in developing and implementing lesson plans and developing interpersonal skills with children of many ages, I also studied subjects such as calculus, astrophysics, South African history, and music theory.
