A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is mostly relaxed, like a causal conversation. I have found people to be much more responsive to learning in this kind of atmosphere. I like to find out what my clients understanding level is, work with them towards strengthening that understanding, and use a verity of learning approaches to help them become self-sufficient in the area.
"In the second grade my mom sent me to tutor. She was an older women and had once been a prominent local educator. She would sit me at her dining room table and have me do my homework while she watched soap operas in the next room. My experience was stagnant. I hated going to her house and I hated school work. In elementary and middle school, I was a C and D kind of student." "In the eighth grade we moved to a new city and I got a new tutor. It was at an after school program. Experienced Tutor, Degree in Math!

I helped many students who had previously given up hope to pass the CLAST exam and I taught the math portion of an SAT prep course through FGCU's CAA. I tutored LD students through Adaptive Services at FGCU I taught labs at FGCU for intermediate and college algebra, statistics and business calculus. I taught AP Calculus and AP Statistics at a private school. I taught Pre-calc and Algebra II through Lee County School District.
Practice-Theory-Practice. I try to stay very focused on doing examples and practice problems. Some theory is necessary for a deep understanding, but it has to come at the right time. The student first needs some practice or at least an attempt to appreciate the process involved in solving a problem. Then I try and bring to light any issues and cover some theory. Then we do more practice.

Growing up the son of an English teacher, and a high school principal, education was obviously paramount in the home environment. I graduated from Indiana University with Business Degree, most of my work experience was in training and development of new employees, with a strong emphasis on demonstration, explaination and using real world applications. Having two children in high school, I have been a math and science tutor for many years.
I remember thinking years ago: "What will I ever use this for?" In tutoring my children, sometimes their friends, in addition to training my employees, I strive to create excitement by showing a need and an application for new information. I tend to retain information ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that education is the key to unlock the doors of opportunity. I love to watch the excitement in a person when they learn something new. Many times, it is just figuring out HOW a person best learns for a new concept to take root and grow into understanding. My goal is to help each student find their best learning approach, so that they are better able to understand the material. I believe that learning should be fun and exciting, and I hope that I can provide that atmosphere by individually discovering new and innovative ways to help provide better understanding of the subject. I am patient, nurturing, and love to laugh.
My educational background has given me a strong foundation in several areas of higher education. My undergraduate training began in Biomedical Engineering; however, I switched my focus to Biological Sciences, with an emphasis on Neurobiology and Physio ... read more

I tutored students for 3 years while living in St Pete Beach, FL from 1995-1998. I specialized in mathematics at any level but also taught chemistry and physics. For the last 3 years I have been tutoring here in Lee county, in math and physics and helping 2 older students prepare for GED mathematics
My experience has been primarily with high school students. Sometimes I have to present a concept in several different ways before a student can understand. I present several different approaches to understanding a particular function and enjoy imparting knowledge to my students.

More About This Tutor...

Throughout high school and college, I've always excelled in my school work. I was president of the math club and often tutored my peers during my spare time. The University of Florida has provided me with a well rounded education, and I feel myself knowledgable in many areas, from languages like french, spanish and hindi, to the sciences like chemistry, biology, and physics. I'm also very familiar with writing term papers.
I like to teach by example and immersion. So much of what schools preach today is rote memorization, and to a certain degree, this cannot be avoided. But whenever possible, I like to try and find real world applications and demonstrations to get my lessons across to my pupil.

A Little Bit About Me...

I spent 6 years tutoring my children who were ESE and ADHD and have been tutoring others for a year. My students range from first grade through college in mathematics and grades 1-8 in all subjects and preparation for FCAT, SAT, ACT. I have a BS in Mathematics with a minor in physics and and AAS in data processing. I use a variety of methods to teach effectively.
I have taught many subjects and sports throughout my life. I have always enjoyed teaching. My tutoring results are mirrored in the grades of my students. I usually assess the present situation, attempt to bring the student current, then cover material expected for the grade level that may have been missed. A good basic knowledge and ongoing supervision with attention to student organization provides lasting results.
