My teaching style is to insist on excellence in speaking, writing, and reading in English. I work with patience, but over a reasonable amount of time, constantly using the wrong tense will earn students a demerit on the class "OOP's" chart. This is a "fun" classroom tool but soon they begin to correct themselves and each other. I believe in building vocabulary, giving spelling tests, and reading aloud with proper pronunciation, diction, and intonation. I want my students to learn correct sentence structure and punctuation and to know the reason why.

My goal is to teach high school English. I have several years experience working with youth in teaching roles, including tutoring both math and english. For 11 months in Ecuador I taught English, Health, Phys. Ed., and career skills to elementary school working children and literacy to their parents. My strongest area of expertise in teaching is reading. I have taught it for years. I have come to the conclusion through both personal experience, observation of other master teachers and through current educational research that it is most necessary to teach reading and math daily in a systematic manner while exposing the students to a learning rich environment(a classroom reading corner full of books is ideal for this). With my Bachelor's degree, I began tutoring through Reading Success and conducted private tutoring of Georgia History. I progressed to teaching English, Spanish, and some Special Education Resource classes at the High School level, and continued to teach lower level English classes at a local college along with reading in an Adult Continuing Education program through another college.
