I believe that every student is different and not ever student learns the same. I like emphasis on visual education and demonstrations because they stick with you much longer than technical memorization of topics. Real life application is crucial to me as well, if you want to be pre med I like to tutor you with problems that are applicable to that field. I.e.) nursing drop rates for chem and math, half life's, unit conversations, logic skills and diagnostics, etc

A Little Bit About Me...

My goal is to use a variety of methods in order to facilitate learning and retention. These methods will vary student-to-student. HOW I teach, however, remains constant for all students. Specifically, I start with the standards: what needs to be learned. Working backwards, I break the standards up into smaller concepts. Once the concepts are explained to the student, and the student understands the concepts, repetition begins in order to facilitate retention. Smaller concepts are then tied into larger ones. In the areas of chemistry or math, a variety of problems are introduced, along with a logical method for analyzing how to set each up. The end goal is to achieve an acceptable level of mastery of the subject.

My entire background revolves around teaching. I taught in a Preschool while I was working on my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. While there I worked with all ages from Infants to the School Age children. After completing my degree I then went to teach in a public school. The first year I taught and ran the Preschool Program of about 50 children, ages 3 to 5 years. I am a Special Education teacher by education and by choice. My teaching style is one that can be changed at any time to answer the learning style of a student. I am a hands-on, multiple teaching style person because I know that students do not learn by using just one learning style. If I said that I just had one teaching style, then I would only be teaching to one type of student and that is detrimental to all students. I love working with children and feel that is my God given talent. I believe that all children can and will learn with the proper time given to them. All children learn differently.
